[New Madrid, Missouri] – The New Madrid Board of Education is pleased to announce the release of the findings from our recent stakeholder survey, conducted to gather valuable input from our community, staff, parents, and students as we embark on the important task of selecting our next superintendent.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who took the time to participate in the survey. Your input is essential to our commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaboration in the superintendent hiring process.

Key Findings from the Stakeholder Survey:

The survey identified  the following as strengths of  the New Madrid School District:

  • Strong principals

  • Outstanding certified teachers and staff

  • A strong desire within the community to see students succeed

The survey also found the following challenges:

  • Student behavior and discipline

  • School engagement of parents and community 

  • Staff and leadership challenges

The Board of Education is now moving forward with the superintendent hiring process. As we begin this journey, we are dedicated to ensuring that the individual chosen for this critical role embodies the values and expectations of our community.

Desired Qualifications for Our Next Superintendent:

1. Recruits, hires, supports, develops, and retains effective staff members

2. Strong instructional leader (curriculum development, assessment, instruction)

3. Effectively manages district resources

4. Builds community and school relations

5. Develop and maintain clear district policies

6. Promotes a community of care and support for students

7. Fosters community for teachers and staff

8. Effectively works with the school administrators

9. Models the district’s vision, mission, and core values

10. Conveys and models clear expectations

"We are committed to finding the best superintendent for our community," said Kay Rebstock, President of the New Madrid Board of Education. "The desired qualifications identified in the survey findings will guide us in finding the right leader to steer our district towards continued success."

A formal interview will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024. The board is expected to make an offer to a candidate over the weekend.
